West Side Wine & Art Escapades!

Today we took off on a 2-day overnight trip to the West Side of Washington to see some glass art and to partake of some delicious wine and food!  I will say, we certainly accomplished our mission!  Our first stop was to head straight for the City of Tacoma, where the Chihuly Museum of Glass is located and where the Glass Bridge also resides.  My wife was in full photo-mode for this part of the trip, and I was able to capture a few pix to add to my Chihuly Glass Art gallery.  As soon as we were done with the glass artwork, we headed straight for Woodinville Wine Country!  Enjoy!

Our first wine excursions of Spring Break in Woodinville occurred after an afternoon spent at the Chihuly Glass Museum and Glass Bridge in Tacoma.  We arrived at the Woodhouse Wine Estates around 4:30 pm, and were greeted by Lisa who was providing our tastings.  We started with a Riesling and then were provided a side-by-side tasting of two Kennedy Shah reserve Syrahs from 2015 and 2016 vintages, followed by the 2015 Kennedy Shah Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.  This facility was large and Lisa was kind enough to tour us through the wine barrel room while describing their wine portfolio, which was very diverse and extensive.  She then recommended Martedi winery since it was after 5 pm and many tasting rooms were likely closed.  Before we headed out, we were able to sign the wine barrel and leave our marks forever emblazoned on the barrel of the Gods!

As we pulled up to Martedi Winery, we thought the small establishment was closed, but when the door opened, so did our love for fine Italian wines!  We were met by owner-winemaker Joseph Miglino.  Joe was a great host and has a ton of experience in the wine business.  We learned that he was a sommelier as well, and that he really considers the palate one of the most prominent factors as he crafts his wines.  Superbly balanced and very flavorful would best describe his wine making style.  While neither my wife nor I have much experience with Italian wines, this tasting opened our eyes to the horizons we have yet to conquer.  Joe’s Sangiovese and Nebbiolo wines were simply amazing.  We could not leave without a bottle of each of these fine wines.  The added bonus was the stemmed and logo’d wine glass we purchased to add to our collection!  Cheers Mr. Miglino!  We will certainly return.
