Sunday in Walla Walla – Wine & Food Paradise

Sunday (the final day of March) started like any other day.  But this particular Sunday morning was beautiful.  Clear blue skies, not windy, low- to mid-60’s projected for the afternoon, and my wife was bored.  That scenario typically means fun times are ahead.  So I suggested we do some wine tasting in Walla Walla where I could treat her to some great food for dinner (as bait for my ulterior motives).  She agreed….and she’s glad she did!  She took some great photos, we enjoyed some fantastic wine, met some new faces, experienced some new wineries, and had a delicious dinner as well.  Plus, the bonus was that we ended up with some new additions to our wine bottle and wineglass galleries too!  Consider this the “intro” blog post, as there’s way too much to cover in a single post, so the next six individual posts will cover each specific tasting room and then our food & wine pairings we had for dinner.  As a prelude for what’s to come, the day’s itinerary looked like this:

  • Enjoy a quick breakfast so we don’t start things on a completely empty stomach
  • 1st stop – Walla Walla Airport District – Golden Ridge Cellars, SMAK Wines & Tamarack Cellars
  • 2nd stop – Walla Walla Eastside District – Tranche Winery
  • 3rd stop – Walla Walla Downtown District – Tero Estates Tasting Room (which also houses three additional labels, Flying Trout, Waters and 21 Grams).
  • Final stop – Saffron Mediterranean Kitchen – (also in the downtown area).
  • Head home and watch the Season Finale of The Walking Dead baby!

Stay tuned, ‘cuz we are just gettin’ started!  Cheers!!
