Sunday Food Escapades in Walla Walla

After our time at Tero Estates, we had developed an appetite for some good food, and it had been awhile since my wife and I had dinner at Saffron Mediterranean Kitchen in downtown Walla Walla.  So that became our final stop of the day on the last Sunday in March.  Apparently the restaurant moved to a different location, but that didn’t deter us.  We are relentless in our hunt for the finest cuisine and wine pairings!  At around 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon we were literally the only ones in the restaurant and we ordered like royalty!  For hors d’oeuvres we ordered some hot pita bread, Patatas Bravas (fingerling potatoes, aioli, spicy tomato sauce & chili pepper), as well as Falafel (cumin-scented chickpea fritters, garlic yoghurt & parsley).  Along with these starters, we ordered a half-bottle (375 mL) of 2018 Moscato d’asti.  This was refreshing after all the wine we had sampled throughout the day.  The Patatas Bravas were delicious and the Falafel was outstanding, especially with the garlic-yoghurt & parsley dip.

For our main entrées, my wife ordered the Arctic Char (wood-grilled fish with a texture and taste in between salmon and halibut, potato skordalia, nettles, lemon, almonds, raisins, celery, parsley & extra virgin olive oil); while I ordered the Roasted Pork Belly (Blue valley meats pork belly, lacinato kale, Walla Walla Organics flageolet beans, parsley & olive oil).  Both of these plates were exquisite, with amazing flavors that really impressed us!  The pork belly was succulent and complemented nicely by the beans and kale.  The price point for the appetizers and entrées was not outrageous and their wine list included both local wines and some international/imported options.  Overall, our experience was really enjoyable, the food was of high quality and the service was outstanding.  We highly recommend this place for dinner!  Bon Appétit!
