Sunday Destination #2 – SMAK Wines

Our 2nd wine destination was located about 100 feet to the Northeast of Golden Ridge Cellars, and was yet another new winery!  Called SMAK Wines, this beautifully decorated and “themed” tasting room focused on three Rosés only!  As we entered through the front door, my wife was in awe.  She immediately fell in love with the vibe and the ambiance of the tasting room décor, furniture, arrangement, colors and energy.  The winemaker/owner was sitting at her desk in a small office just off the entryway to the tasting room and she sat us down and proceeded to describe her latest wine venture with us.  Her name is Fiona Mak, and she is going to do great things in the wine industry!  She used the first letter of her original first birthname (“S”) and added it to “Mak” and voila….you have SMAK!  In our chat as we tasted the three Rosés (named after seasons – Spring, Summer and Fall/Winter), we found out that she relocated first from Hong Kong to New York, and most recently landed in Walla Walla to pursue her winemaking and distribution dreams.  She is a certified Sommelier as well, and we left this winery feeling that there is nothing Fiona can’t do!  My wife really enjoyed the Syrah-based rosé (Fall/Winter series) so we couldn’t walk out the door without 2 bottles of this amazing wine.  Keep your eyes out for Fiona Mak, ‘cuz she’s already making waves in the wine industry and is likely to do so for many years to come!  Best of luck in your new venture Fiona!
